To surrender is to to give (oneself) over to something (as an influence). For me, that's all it's ever meant. I've never truly thought about it, I've just "done" it. I've heard my friends tell me that I need to surrender -fully surrender- to be able to fix things, things being situations, relationships, etc, but I've never taken it to heart. It's so much easier to say that you've surrendered everything than to actually do it. Now that I've thought about it, to surrender just means to truly give it all to God. To give EVERYTHING to him, not just the few things that you feel comfortable with giving. The only way a relationship can be great is to have God in the middle. The only way situations work out is if God's in it. To surrender also means to trust. That's a big one for me. Trusting sometimes causes you to have to be vulnerable, and being vulnerable causes you to have to put yourself out there. The main realization that I've come to is surrendering isn't easy. Once done it's totally worth it, but during the process it's hard. After you surrender you can find one of the greatest feelings, which is true joy.
All I ask is that you pray. Pray that not only I, but everyone has the courage to surrender the things in our life that we need to surrender.
